Thinking of killing the hub.

Maybe i am just being over-reactive, but it is dead pretty much. There may be some things on the hub that you cannot find anymore, that only i/we can offer, but for the most part, everyone has these images.

I am pulling the plug on the hub. There is no point of me carrying on with it anymore. It's been a long run of 6 years, and i think that is pretty darn long. Activity has been kept going only by myself and cubanraul, and a few others that popped in from time to time(Incredible hark, Xentor, and Sideshow), but i have had a lot of fun over the years, and you guys have made it a blast.

I thank all who have come and gone and shared some images that were deemed un-obtainable, and those who shared some amazing laughs. The experience was a rush, as well as the best fun i have ever had on the internet in one place! There was a lot of hard work to make the pc engine scene partially, yet nearly complete, and we did it without killing each other( even though there were some tense moments, we had so many clowns in there to lighten up the atmosphere like a fart clearing a room, .......they were that good........yeah i am talking to you Indrid Cooled, Azzman!!!!!!), so the hub was a very memorable time in our lives at one point or another, and after 6 years it is time to lay it to rest.

With the torrent sites, there is no reason to come to the hubs anymore. I used to think it was a BLAST chatting with new, strange people, to get to know them a little bit behind the glow of a monitor screen, while sharing images, but i think that has gone the way of the dinosaur with aforementioned torrents. I still think it should be common place. Most torrent messages i have sent via the torrent program to the sharer have gone unanswered. It's cold place in the torrent world.

I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for being on the hub, and making it a success for so many years. Your patronage will always be remembered fondly.

If the Sega hub is still alive, i may just hang there with my collection, and keep at least my share going. So i will keep you updated.

Take care NEC lovers!!!!!

If bittorrent never existed jam then people would be loving the HUB but its just too easy to obtain NEC material nowadays without having to wait for slots(not that there is a need to wait for slots).  I loved the HUB for what it was worth.

 Cry Cry Cry Cry NOOOOO!

Its cool, that just means i'll have to hang out over here more often. Jammer what you've done over the years to keep the hub alive was a feat in itself, and thanks to that hub I made some pretty cool friends online (sorry i havent been around much) as much as i would have liked to see the gang back, its just not going to happen, and like you said, torrenting has made what was hard work for us all gathering quality images as easy as 1 click today. Anyway, I completely understand your reasoning behind the final closing down, and like I said, I'll have to come over here more since it seems to be the hangout of some of the old members (you and sideshow at least Wink ) plus i dont really like pcenginefx.com all that much, but thats another story. I hope to get back in touch with you guys more now that I'm settled down in a semi-permanent residence. Whatever you do Jam, never give up on PC COCORON! The search continues...

That's sad news Jamms.  Everyone is more than welcome here!  I need to figure out a way to draw more people to this forum, the News page gets a lot of hits but not much activity here in the forums....

Everyone is right about bittorrent, which completely makes apps like DC++ hubs obsolete.  Especially since it's so easy to leech a torrent without uploading.

I've had to completely change my downloading habits since I've moved to Australia.  Back in Canada I never really had any monthly bandwidth limits, but here I am limited to 7GB total up and down per month (on a $49/month plan).  I get charged $100 per GB I go over that limit!  Crazy expensive.  It's mobile though, so I can use it anywhere there is cell phone reception.  Checking the forums from the beach ain't half bad Smiley

I can add a chat option (like PCenginefx has on their forum) if that would appeal to anyone?

Hhmmmm that is very sad news indeed but I agree. There is no sence in keeping the hub running using up power and cpu when hardly any people come in, but hey, that isnt your fault Jam, it's just a sign of the times. Thx to Jammaniaclord and everyone else for all the memories and game images, fun times and METAL. Now that chat option could prove usefull, maybe an imbedded flash/java chat app on the side or maybe even an IRC channel. I think most data centers allow this and even have the option available straight from their option panels. Of course I could be wrong i've never hosted a website outside my computer lol. Take care all.

Yes indeed i still miss the hub. I really hated pulling the plug, but as Xentor summed it up, it is a sign of the times. The only thing i question, and it AMY be just becasue i have been out of the scene for a long time, is that the quality of rips may not have the integrity we had.  I am sure they are probably darn good, but at the same time, there are probably still bad rips floating around out there. I myself shared some bad rips in the BEGINNING......before i knew what the hell i was doing, but after some pummeling from Squasresoft74, and that other guy that first started the NEC Archives hub, i shaped up.

My pc took a poop-fit, and it only runs for about 30-45 minutes before it shuts off on its own. I still have it, because i need to back up my 4 hard drives, 2 of which contain my NEC images and related material that i had for the hub. I am now on a brand new laptop, which is WAY more powerful than my 7 year old celeron 2.6 GHZ. Plus this thing is ULTRA quiet, and not just compared to my desktop, but just on it's own as a technical piece of hardware. My wifes laptop is noisy as well. Plus hers gets really hot, and this does not.

I did finally mod my PSP to play emulators, and that is pretty darn awesome! Finally a good use for the PSP. I love the hardware, but the library was just weak. There were only three titles i thought were great on there, those being Dracula X remake, God Of War:Chains of Olympus, and Resistance Retribution. Even Resistance Retribution had it's flaws, such as the feeling of being on a rail, and the enemies seemed a little dumbed down from the PS3 version in the AI department.
