Offerings Following the success of Nintendo’s GameBoy, NEC brought out a portable version of the PC Engine in 1991. The handheld system was called The PC Engine GT. The unit was slightly larger than the GameBoy, but contained the same guts as the PC Engine, and a colour screen. The unit played HuCards, so your PC Engine library could once again be brought across to another system. The PC Engine GT, or Turbo Express as it was called in America, was a relative hit. However, its high price tag prevented it from becoming anything more. A TV tuner add-on was made, but still didn’t justify the high price tag for most consumers. The GameBoy, in contrast, was dirt-cheap. Later, NEC developed a PC Engine LT, which looks quite a bit like Nintendo’s GameBoy Advance SP, only larger and had a built in TV antenna. |
