"BOO! Scared you didn’t I? Sorry about that, I was just using dramatic effect to make a point. Fear, anticipation and suspense, these three elements are crucial to any great horror video game. And frightening a user is one of the greatest feats that a video game can accomplish. Whenever a video game sends chills down your spine it’s a moment you don’t soon forget. Well we have just the game to send those shivers, so prepare your spine! Calling, the next step in the evolution of the Japanese horror genre is coming out for Wii™ in March 2010.
The horror genre has been an important part of Japanese culture for several centuries. Whether it’s through spoken stories, movies or video games. The tradition of telling folk tales about ghosts dates back to the late 700’s. Traditionally ghosts or as there called in Japan, yūrei, are females, dressed in white and have long, black hair. Now not every yūrei follows those guidelines, though most famous ones in Japanese horror do.
J-Horror as it’s been dubbed in America, didn’t become popular over seas until the early 2000’s. Re-makes of Japanese horror movies launched America into a Japanese horror fever! It became the big trend in Hollywood. Video games also became heavily influenced by the J-Horror phenomenon. Many titles that have been released in the past 10 years embodied the fundamentals of classic Japanese horror story lines. But none of those games ever took the user to the next level of fear.
Calling is the next step in the evolution of the Japanese horror genre. It embodies every classic trait of J-horror and more! It has suspense, vengeance, and a few intense surprises that will take gamers to the brink. Bringing a modern vibe to a classic genre is what makes Calling so special. It gives the user the ability to experience J-horror in a way they have like never before. It literally puts the phone in hands of the user. But who is on the line? Guess you’ll just have to wait until March 2010, when Calling hits the shelves!
When the phone rings, will you be the one to answer the call? "
Alma and the "F.E.A.R." series is one of my faves. "Resident Evil" is my all time best, and "Eternal Darkness:Sanity's Requiem" (for the GameCube) is another primo title, that NEEDS a sequel!!!! Come on Silicon Knights!!!!!
= )
I'll be interested in seeing this title do well. We'll see.
