Review: The
night
is dark, the bats are blood thirsty. So crack out your whip, and get
ready for
one of the best side-scrollers of all time! MWAHAHAHAHA! Graphics
- 10+/10
These graphics have reached the PC-Engine's capacity! The sequences are
awesome
enough, but the in game graphics are really good! The graphics in this
game are
some of the best graphics than any other PC-Engine game there is! The
sprites
are highly detailed, the backgrounds are done beautifully, and the
bosses are
very colored and animated real well! I can't express how good these
graphics
are, it nearly blows your PCE into pieces!
Sound -
10+/10
The sound
effects go very well with your attacks and other features! Lets move
onto
something much better; the music. The music is great! The tracks have a
very
nice variety to them as well! If you played the first Castlevania game,
you'll
be familiar with some of the songs in this game. What makes this game
really cool
is that you can listen to all the tracks when loading the game, or
listen to
all the tracks by putting the CD in your CD player. I can't tell you
how good
the music is, you just have to see yourself!
Game play
- 10+/10
The game
play works similar to the ones for the NES since they use the same
amount of
buttons. But in this game, I noticed something new. If you jump in the
air and
press back+jump two times, you do a little back flip to avoid enemies.
It's a
nice little feature to have; it saved me a couple times. The challenge
to this
game is a little weak compared to some other Castlevania games, but
never less,
this game is incredibly fun to play! I am not saying this game is easy,
oh no,
it can be really hard at times. But once you find the little tricks to
each
level, you can get through them like a breeze. The different variety of
extra
weapons you can use is excellent. They all come in much handy, and help
you
through the game with bosses mainly. There are two characters to choose
from
also: Richter Belmont, and Maria Renard.
Here's a
fun tip: If you are using a real NEC system or an emulator, use an older
System
Card and try loading Dracula X. You should then be in a little mini
game.
Story -
10/10
You star
as Richter Belmont, a descendent of the powerful Belmont family. You
wield the
whip his
ancestor Ralph C. Belmont used to kill Dracula with nearly three
hundred and
sixteen years ago. The whip has a name, and it is called "Vampire
Killer". It's now time to put your whipping skills to the test by
killing
the powerful, legendary, Count Dracula!
Re-Play -
10/10
This game
always calls your name out to tell you to play for more. Need I say
more?
Overall -
10+/10
How can
this NOT get a 10?? This game deserves every 10 I gave it because it's
that
great of a game. Now, I can't necessarily tell you to go out and buy
this game
because it won't be that easy. The only place where you can actually
buy this
game is from EBay, and you better have a few greens in your pocket too.
This
game will cost you over $120. If you are playing to buy it, all I can
say is
good luck!
