Review: Gameplay:
This is Gauntlet with
a story! Also, it has an ending (two of them!) multiplayer support, and
RPG elements. The story is decent, but the game is all about Gauntlet
style
dungeon running. Special blocks 'create' monsters and if you take too
long
to destroy them, the screen will be packed with creatures. You attack
by
throwing your weapon or, in the case of magic users, a 'spell blast'.
Including
your basic attack, there are vials for black and white magic which each
allow a different effect per character. Each dungeon concludes with a
'boss
battle', and once you've defeated the boss, you get a coin that will
level
up your character and enhance one of your chosen stats. Also,
while
Gauntlet had four types of characters, Dungeon Explorer has many more.
In fact, there are even some hidden character types.
Control:
Not much to say here...it
works, nothing is complicated, and when you press the buttons, you get
the intended effect immediately. Gets the job done.
Music/Sound:
One of the BEST soundtracks
ever! I love the music in this game! The sound effects are what
you'd
expect from such a game and the system it's on.
Final
Words:
Play it! if only for
the 'alternate' ending...
